12 May What to Look for When Choosing a Billing Company

There are many things to consider when you are trying to decide whether you should hire billing staff to help manage your revenue cycle, or outsource your revenue cycle to a firm that specializes in revenue cycle management.  Oftentimes, outsourcing this critical piece of your business will provide you with greater return on your investment, as billing companies have the infrastructure in place to sufficiently address all of the necessary details to support an optimized revenue cycle.  You should do your due diligence and vet companies to ensure they’ll not only do a great job for you, but also to ensure they’re the right fit for your practice.

In addition to asking questions regarding the services they provide, ask about the company’s culture.  It may be important to you to have the opportunity to reach out to someone at the billing company who you know will be able to help you with your questions.  Ask whether you’ll have a designated contact person, and who can be reached when that individual is not available.  Discuss the expectations you have of the billing company and ask what expectations the company has of you as well.  Ensure that you have clarity with regard to what the relationship will look like before you finalize your decision.  The goal of both parties should be to not have any surprises post agreement once you begin working together.

My cousin has been thinking about outsourcing his billing staff but isn’t sure. I like that you mention how you should meet the company in person to see what they are all about. I think it’s important to find a trustworthy company that can uphold the values of your company. Thanks for the help!
