07 Jun Non-Healthcare Companies Facilitating Sharing of Patient Data
Earlier this year, Apple released Health Records as a new element within its Health app, which allows users to access their EHR health data for participating organizations through this app. This week, Apple released an application program interface (API) that will allow integration of health record data with third-party apps.
This is an incredibly interesting answer to the question of how we can better integrate and utilize the breadth of health data that currently floats around various EHRs for so many patients. In the absence of a solid method for full interoperability among rival EHRs, non-healthcare tech – and particularly Apple, in this case – is answering the call of many consumers who want to be more involved in their own care.
