03 Nov CHIP Funding Passed Through the House
Last week we brought you information regarding the dwindling funds available to the states for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The House missed a September deadline to renew funding for the program that is considered an element of Medicaid.
As reported by Modern Healthcare, this afternoon, the House passed The Healthy Kids Act renewing funding for the CHIP program with a vote of 242-174. Nationwide, 8.9 million children and 370,000 pregnant women receive insurance coverage through this program. Via this bill, federal funding for CHIP would be extended for five years, and funding for federally qualified health centers renewed for two years.
The bill now moves on to the Senate for approval.
